POEM: My gut says no

My gut says no.
I told him so
He packed his stuff
And off the cuff
Said “you’re so cold!”
Which I thought bold
And rather wrong, yet
He broke into song:

‘You’re as cold as ice!
You’re willing to sacrifice
our love.
She wants paradise
But someday she’ll pay the price,
I know’

And so,
I listened and smiled
As he acted the child.
But my smile was a smirk
I thought, “this guy’s a jerk!
What the hell am I doing with him?”

So he packed up and left
I was slightly bereft
Till I noticed what he’d left behind.
His clothing all packed
And his presents all stacked
With the gift cards I gave him on top.
“This Xmas has been a huge flop!”
Emphatically stated
The thing I most hated?
He left cards I had written
With love,(I was smitten…)
That hit hard for a minute
But I’ve now reached my limit!
No more Narcs!
I don’t care
if there’s sparks!
Just beware
For the future of me
Starts with me.
It’s already stellar
Gets better and better,
You’ll see
